Scopus, the largest interdisciplinary abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, has announced that it will soon be improving the way that citation data for authors and publications is tracked and viewed.

Scopus will do this by considering the publication records of an individual, the number of papers published over n years and the number of citations for each paper. The result will be a single number, the “h-index”.

To provide additional clarity, Scopus will include a set of visual aids that present a transparent overview of citation and publication patterns over time. This will reveal whether the h-index is dependent on a few highly cited papers or whether the author’s papers have a relatively consistent volume of citations.

Scopus is available on- and off-campus to U of T students, faculty and staff via our U of T Library subscription. Scopus contains abstracts and references from over 15,000 peer reviewed journals from 4,000 publishers worldwide, with links to full-text where available.

Thirteen science and technology societies from across the world are set to launch scitopia.org, a free federated vertical search portal. The new portal, to be launched in June 2007, will enable users to explore the research most cited in scholarly work and patents in a single click.

Researchers at University of Toronto will access full text content directly via our U of T Library subscriptions to these societies’ publications.

Founding partners include the American Geophysical Union, American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Electrochemical Society, IEEE, Institute of Physics Publishing, Optical Society of America, SPIE, Society of Automotive Engineers and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Other organisations will be invited to join as the project progresses.

Scitopia.org will aggregate the entire electronic libraries of key players in major science and technology disciplines. Users will be able to search from more than three million documents, including peer reviewed journal content and conference proceedings, spanning 150 years of science and technology. Visitors to scitopia.org will be presented with a simple, but function-rich interface. They will be able to search for full text articles using a fielded approach, for example, by article title or author name.

We also have a number of e-books and e-journals. To see a full list of e-books and e-journals go to e-resources and type fuel cells. Here are a few of the e-journals:

Fuel Cell Technology News

Fuel Cells

Fuel Cells Bulletin

Here are some additional resources from the open web:

CADDET: Centre for Analysis and Dissemination of Demonstrated Energy Technologies

CADDET boasts one of the world’s most detailed repositories of information on renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, and is well worth a visit. Established in 1988 by the International Energy Agency, its scope is clearly international. A major goal has been to provide insight on renewable energy and energy-saving technologies that have worked in other countries. Managers, engineers, architects and researchers will find a wealth of documents on cost-effective technologies that have been successfully applied in industry, agriculture, transport and other sectors. From the left menu choose Technologies. Detailed search options allow you to focus a search by country, technology, energy efficiency or renewal, and publication type. Returning to the left menu, Technical Brochures leads to some 400 publications, the last of which was published end of 2003. Sadly, the CADDET website ceased collecting new information in March 2005.

Fuel Cell Today

Fuel Cell Today is an extremely comprehensive global portal whose goal is to accelerate commercialization of fuel cells. This site is an important resource to anyone seeking introductory information, context or latest developments in fuel cell/hydrogen technologies and industry.
